Triple Treble Stitches (Double Treble in US)

Triple treble crochet stitches are taller than the treble and double crochet stitches.  They are used for many patterns; such as cluster stitches or shell crochet patterns.

US And UK Crochet Patterns

Be careful not to get confused with crochet stitches patterns in the US and the UK. The triple treble crochet in the UK is known as the double treble crochet stitches in the US.

The triple treble stitches in the UK are abbreviated to ttr in crochet patterns, but are known as double treble stitches in the US, so the abbreviation is dtr for this stitch.

.

Start by doing some basic chain or foundation stitches.  Wrap the yarn over the hook 3 times, and then insert your crochet hook into the 6th chain of your foundation chain.  Wrap the yarn over your hook once, and then draw the yarn through the chain.  You should have 5 loops on your crochet hook.  Wrap the yarn over the hook again and draw this loop through the first 2 loops on your hook.  This should leave 4 loops on your hook.

Wrap the yarn over the hook and draw through 2 loops, so you now have 3 loops on your crochet hook.  Wrap the yarn over the hook again and draw through 2 loops.  You should now only have 2 loops on your hook.  Wrap the yarn over the hook once more and draw through 2 loops.  Now you should have one loop on your hook.  The turning chain used to replace a triple treble stitch is counted as the first triple treble stitch in a row.  You have now completed your first triple treble crochet stitch.  Continue working your triple treble stitch into each of the foundation chain until you reach the end.  Turn your work round and do five chain stitches.  This is your turning chain and is counted as your first triple treble stitch.  Continue working your stitches into each stitch below until you reach the end.  You have now completed your second row of triple treble stitches.
